french producers dj deep and traumer pair up for their debut on radio slave’s rekids. a key component in parisian techno since the ‘90s, dj deep’s influence is indisputable whether it’s helming deeply rooted house records, launching his own rotary dj mixer series or his numerous appearances on tresor records alongside gettraum founder roman poncet, who appears on this release as traumer. ‘la valle la b’ comes in three forms. the ‘la deep mix’ is an echoing number complete with rhythmic percussion and rumbling bass, whilst ‘la slave mix’ is a glitchier alternative featuring various subtle nuances and otherworldly atmospherics. finally ‘la spicy mix’ concludes the package with a focus on piercing synths and a compelling groove.

all good things take time, aussteiger said once. and indeed, it took a serious amount of time to get everything set for what soon will be known as dub disco s first release! we’ve been digging deep inside his tune collection. not only to make sure that the first three-tracker is a belter, but that it also showcases exactly the kind of musical approach we wanted as our personal imprint: to hell with a boring and homogeneous release that only represents one genre! we were looking for something that stands for itself, something that tells a story, something that is representative for what the artist stands for in a musical sense. and after a tedious quest, we carefully curated something we think is dope! kicking off the number one is a track disclosing the joint forces of berlin-based collective of musicians los wawis and aussteiger s capabilities as a remixer. here appears a psychedelic version of the track, which is carried by gentle guitars, a dubby bassline as well as the funky-trippy synthesizers that usher a tropical vibe onto the dancefloors. the starter on the flip is entitled “heimat” and comes around as a melancholic interpretation of aussteiger’s time in exile, a period that enabled him to craft his very own style. there is not much to say about this bomb that the ear doesn t catch instantly: this one is an honest earworm, with it s irresistibly arranged horns and a pervasive and driving bassline. to finish everything off, we went for a nasty banger, that carefully blends different aspects of the raving side of dance music. the electrifying broken beat and it’s haunting bassline are blended with an intense influence of acid.

restored and re-mastered from the original tapes comes gigi masins much sought after first album wind. never commercially released the lp was in fact only given away at a number of small concerts, with many of the remaining copies destroyed during floods in the venice based musicians house. quickly becoming seen as something of a landmark ambient album in recent years, ‘wind is now lovingly presented again in its entirety. true to its original private issue it is once again being made available through gigi masins very own the bear on the moon records.

the hidden meaning of number 13 is change, the death of something and its rebirth. this is the idea behind gabriel dor & bordoys new album 13, which is meant to be a turning point on their career. influenced by old school techno but also by modern sounds, after 6 years of production partnership, theyve decided to release their first entirely unpublished lp. the album, made out of 13 cuts, starts with a dark intro that paves the way into a forceful kind of techno, followed by vintage sounds with gloomy touches and sometimes even emotional ones. they have used many instruments and samples discovered along the way on this composition process, plus lots of others found in the previous years. the sounds put together on this album have been carefully picked to preserve their uniqueness, while trying to walk on a different path.

ep number four of this series of eight remastered tracks with remix-tributes to the techno legend christian morgenstern is here, and kicks off with d_funcs remix of steigreider on side a. creating a warm grayscale atmosphere, the track is carried by a heavy sub kick groove thats saturated with the modern industrial energy that proves kowalski’s skills as a techno craftsman. as a contrast, jeroen searchs remix of aces high on b1 is a more minimal interpretation, carried by a slowly developing beat and playing skillfully with the most recognisable elements of the original. the final track, a remastered version of morgensterns lydia to the edge of panic is a timeless classic, painting a morgenstern-typical distant and dream like landscape and opening up into a widescreen chord progression, with an epic build up.

hot off a couple of 12” from topher horn, rocksteady disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well-known editors. pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer-inspired aural prozac number, just in time for this june release. next up is notorious detroit editor lafleur, busting out this original milky-smooth detroit boogie house production. a slight little rearrangement from rocksteady disco label boss peter croce makes this one a bit smoother for the djs. lyon, france’s g2s kicks off the flip with a big-bottomed stomper reminiscent of some mcde ‘raw cuts’. pontchartrain book-ends this release with a track that puts the ‘rocksteady’ in rocksteady disco, with heavy analog-meets-electro drum programming and complete with pontchartrain on vocoder duties. hand numbered edition of 500 copies with dl code.

stone cold classic, although pastime paradise has been reissued a couple of time on compilations every single reissue has used the rocky lp version which is not nearly as good as the original 7inch cut. as we at athens of the north like to do things right we went back to the sony tape vault and had the 7- version transferred for the first time since the o.g 45 was cut. this 45 sounds fantastic, much stronger then the o.g 45 cut so its a no brainer. on the flip we took one of our favourite track from the lp and introduced it to 7inch for the first time, mambotango is a dreamy sountracky latin disco number i used to spin on warm up duty, very new york.

after coming with a pretty great electronic soft jazz number on the first release, distant works begins to define the mission behind the label with the second offering-a synth, italo-esque 5-cut ep that would only come from somewhere in the netherlands these days. the label bosses are clearly up to go to distant places to deliver the sounds. it s a very impressive statement and raises our interest on future releases.

celebrating 10 years as a label, rekids founder radio slave delivers a mesmerizing production with a remix from ostgut ton’s marcel dettmann. since its birth in 2006 matt edwards’ rekids has played host to some of today’s most renowned names in house and techno, including the likes of nina kraviz, roman flu&#776,,,gel, shed and mr. g. with releases on the likes of r&s and running back, radio slave is one of the world’s finest producers, whose dance-floor focused cuts earned him the title of resident advisor’s most charted artist of 2015.
radio slave’s ‘vision’ is a dusky number possessing popping kicks and ebbing pads that meander forward as a murky voice proclaims the track title. meanwhile, marcel dettmann’s remix distorts the original whilst emphasising the low-end to give it a dark and ominous aesthetic.

nightime drama is proud to present a 3 track ep from yoshihiro arikawa, featuring a remix by aubrey. the tokyo based producer yoshihiro arikawa is known for a compound of minimal and 90 s ghetto house, releasing a series of critically heralded eps on logistic in france, kb and his own label kodaira tracks under his alias d kawa between 2003 and 2009. after a short hiatus, arikawa restarted the activities under his real name and has revealed a new aspect of his music on a number of releases from international labels such as affin, hypnotic room, labyrinth, m_grey, toffler sound and swap. his first release on nightime drama comes with a remix from aubrey who is no stranger to any techno lover’s ears. with over 25 years in the industry, he has been involved with some of the biggest names in the business and brings a funky energetic remix to the release.

jami bassols has been a close member of hivern since its beginnings as one half of aster. now, following the release of noche/ templo, his two acclaimed edits for nvh, he returns to the label with his solo debut as jmii. in thrills, the barcelonian producer displays a sound that s equally raw and lively, with a very personal sense of quirkiness. the title track is jmii s most expansive production to date. an uplifting house number built around an elastic bassline and sprinkled with a bubbly arpeggiated melody, echoed vocal snips and ravey pads. bailar is a sort of lunatic take on chi-house, with a crude bassline, psychotic organ chords and feverish percussion coming together to form an ultra-infectious groove. tightbrass follows a similar path, but conducted by frenzied synthetic horns that bring to mind a marching band of manic robots. in his remix, comeme s christian s. brings the track to a darker territory, reducing it to it s core elements and focusing in a nasty bassline that will for sure cause serious damage in the dancefloors in the upcoming months.

another slamming post-disco number from the early 80s lifted from the legendary sam records vaults. this beat is mine has always been a big one, a boogie classic (featured in sean ps indispensable -boogie essentials list) and a sure fire party starter on any self respecting dance-floor! produced by gary r. turnier (of gary s gang fame) and andre booth (of northend, b.b.c.s. & a fame) the funk is definitely a factor on this cut! as if the original 1981 cut wasn t dope enough, boston mixtape, digging and edits king kon (of kon & amir, on track) got his hands on the reels and turned in a storming, respectful reworking for all you dj s out there who want that extra bomb factor in the booth! as usual with kon s edits this one packs a serious punch and this limited 12inch repress is a bonafide essential to have in your bag! don t snooze on this classic, now made available again, legitimately licensed, remastered and reissued in conjunction with sam records new york city.
